Sunday, May 6: The Airplane

It turns out that it's ridiculously easy to get to the airport from my apartment in Toronto. Just hop on the subway, take it to the end of the line, and then catch a bus rightly called the "Airport Rocket". All for the price of just a TTC token and total transit time about an hour. Even had time to attend a lecture with a friend, part of the Toronto Jewish Film Festival, before heading out. So went to lecture, left for airport, arrived and met the London contingent who had come in by Robert Q Airbus together, and got on the plane. Air Canada, not El Al, just because the timing was far more convenient.

We left at 5:30 pm, spent 12 hours on the plane, and arrived at noon the next day. How does that work? That's crazy! They're so advanced. I had fun looking out the window: I thought the plane would take the shortest route, but what it actually did was fly down to New Brunswick, then across to Europe, minimizing the distance spent over water. Good planning! Meal times were all mixed up: I set my watch to Israel time as soon as I got on the plane, which meant we were served dinner at like two in the morning, and breakfast not till nine. There was a boisterous group of teenagers from Birthright on the plane with us, and a few families with little babies, so getting a good sleep wasn't really an option anyway. I sort of watched Dreamgirls and dozed through Eragon.
